About The Merrie Harriers Inn... Roger Cotton welcomes you to his delightful white-clapboarded village inn set in the heart of the Weald. Located in Cowbeech, the Merrie Harriers is easily accessible from the A271, just two miles north of Herstmonceux. Dating back to 1624 the Merrie Harriers is a Grade II listed building, offering a quintessentially English experience. The comfortable beamed and panelled bar has wooden floors with a large inglenook fireplace, while the lounge bar/dining room, which also has an open log fire, leads into a separate non-smoking restaurant. The restaurant looks out onto a terrace where rustic tables nestle amongst a colourful array of shrubs and pots. Further seating is available in the well-kept gardens, with views to the local countryside. And all this is set in the grounds of approximately one acre. A full menu is served seven days a week, with a lighter bar menu at lunchtime (except Sundays). Our dishes may be best described as 'new British classics'. All food is freshly prepared on the premises by 'Chef Proprietor Roger Cotton' and his team. Every effort is made to source local produce, using both free-range and organic ingredients wherever possible. This attention to detail has not gone unnoticed, with the Merrie Harriers recently featuring in the national finals of not one, but two competitions for excellence in pub food! Traditional local ales are served, from both Harvey's of Lewes and other regional brewers. An excellent selection of wines, drawing from both new and old world, is available by the glass & bottle. The Merrie Harriers is the ideal venue for your special event, whether for pleasure or business. Tailor-made menus are available, just let Roger know your exact requirements For summer of 2006 (and 2007!), the Merrie Harriers will also make the ideal venue for both your civil wedding ceremony and reception. see our weddings page for more details...
